This winter... get warm!
From late January to mid-April, you will have the leisure to pamper yourself, surpass and surprise you in one of the "unavoidable" courses or workshops that are offered. Do not take too long to join us, studios do not welcome more than 8 people at the same time...
Several courses of drawing are offered depending on whether you want to start or improve, be in a studio or explore the city. You will learn in the courses addressed to beginners to master the basic concepts of line, curve, shadows and light, composition, perspective.... In the advanced courses, you will concentrate on the textures, the drapery, the human figure, and the portrait. A four classes course will allow you to discover or improve your knowledge of the portrait. Finally, the great innovation of this winter is a courses dedicated to sketch which will take place in Montreal's public places such as the greenhouse of the Botanical Garden, the cottage of the mountain, a church, the Metro... The "Stroller's sketchbook" gives you an appointment in town! In winter, the courses will take place in the insides, of course, but as soon as the beautiful days show up, the course will invest the outsides of the city!
The proposal is similar for the painting courses. The principal medium chosen is acrylic, whether it is to apprehend the basics of the discipline, the mastery of color, brushes, or composition,... or to start without restraint in spontaneous expression to develop your creativity on different formats in different atmospheres, or even for blending with other mediums, other textures, and work mixed media. A course entirely dedicated to the colour is also programmed to get perfection in the mixtures, tints, juxtapositions....
Drawing and painting are also honoured in three days of very specialized workshops offered this winter. You can opt for the introduction to the image transfer with a specialist of this technique during the first end of the week of February, or for the drawing and painting workshop on sheets of Mylar in March. This final workshop will allow you to discover other media than paper, canvas, cardboard... End, at the end of the month of April, you will have the opportunity to spend a whole day in mixed media, a beautiful way to discover or deepen you into this art.
Finesse and transparency are also available during this white winter... The Watercolour course invites you to discover fluidity. You will learn techniques of lavis, glaze, tempera, dry brush and the use of the white of the paper to create brightness. You are also warmly invited to improve your knowledge during four days devoted to specific themes of this art, a beautiful opportunity to acquire control of various facets of Watercolour: the dynamics of color, design and composition, shade and light, and finally the art of the sketch with the manufacturing of a sketchbook.
The three dimensions will no longer have any secret for your hands... or for you. Sculpture is revealed ... A first course is dedicated to the modeling of clay. You will work the human figure, the proportions of the body and the bust, you will learn how to make a frame, to understand and take advantage of the properties of the clay, and optimally use all the tools at your disposal. A second course invites you to the discovery of silicone moulding. You will learn to master four different types of moulds, to choose the one best suited to each piece selected, to preserve the best the original piece, and you will mould yourself the desired sculpture after having acquired fundamental principles to do so. Moreover, an open studio is proposed every Thursday to come and complete your work quietly or to have a proper weekly space in the company of a professional artist.
All new! The La Salamandre Art Center now offers you mosaic courses and workshops in a place that is totally dedicated to this art. You will have the choice between classical style "Mosaïka" courses in which you will learn the techniques and secret mosaic, the Picassiette workshops in which you will give back life to your own dishes, and the Roman mosaic workshops in which you will work the marble following ancient techniques.
Most of these courses for adults are open to teenagers and represent a beautiful opportunity for them to learn true and serious artistic techniques with art professionals. It is also a great opportunity to share quality time in family... However, they have the opportunity to benefit from an exclusive course in comics ... In that course they will gain the fundamental bases and the different tools to build characters and their universe.
As for children, they will have the leisure to flourish and unleash entirely in two art classes in which they combine techniques, fertile imagination, expression, twinned with emotions or with music, and intense creativity on large and small formats, standing or seated, flat or against a wall, while discovering some of the artists of the past, inspiring and training. The first course is devoted to drawing, to the essential basics such as the line, curve, the proportions, the shadow, light,.... And the second to expressive painting with the color, composition, tools,....
The family is at the heart of the La Salamandre Art Centre. You have the possibility to register for some of the drawing and painting courses in tandem "parent - teenager", and you can also share the scrapbooking activities in extended family groups. The scrapbooking workshops, short and with specific themes of creation, are very indicated for a moment of pleasure and creation with a child. The regular course is also adapted, of course! The scrapbooking course is designed to allow you to acquire the basic techniques of the handling of cardboards, tools, awls, highlighted... The workshops, for their part, are devoted to the highlights of the beginning of this year and invite you to create maps, albums, or decorations for Valentine's, Easter, Mother's day, Father's day.
